BAYTOWN, Texas – A high school student has died after being stabbed with a pair of scissors during a fight inside a classroom at Ross S. Sterling High School on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.
The Altercation and Arrest
According to the Baytown Police Department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the high school at approximately 10:42 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17.
Investigators stated that two male students were involved in an altercation inside a classroom. During the fight, one student stabbed the other with scissors.
Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Aundre Matthews, a student at the school. He was taken into custody and later booked into the Baytown jail on a murder charge.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries
The injured student was transported by ambulance and later flown by Life Flight to the Texas Medical Center. The Baytown Fire Department confirmed that weather conditions prevented the helicopter from landing on campus, forcing first responders to transport the student by ambulance to the Baytown Airport first.
Despite these efforts, the student later died. The victim has been identified as Andrew Meismer.
School Response and Investigation
In response to the incident, Ross S. Sterling High School was placed on a temporary hold as a precaution. The Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District confirmed that parents of both students were notified and that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff on campus.
The Goose Creek CISD Police Department is leading the investigation. In a statement, the district urged the community to support students, staff, and especially the family of the student who died.
Due to the ongoing criminal investigation and confidentiality requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the district has not officially released the names of the students involved.
