Lauderdale County mourns 75-year-old man Lonnie Clemons killed in multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 43
LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. – A Lauderdale County community is heartbroken after a 75-year-old man died following a multi-vehicle crash on a state highway Monday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Lonnie Clemons.

A Chain-Reaction Crash on U.S. 43

According to Alabama State Troopers, the tragic incident occurred just before 12:45 p.m. on Monday, December 15, on U.S. 43 near Haygood Circle, approximately seven miles north of Killen.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Clemons was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a 2014 Acura RDX. The force of that impact caused the Acura to collide with two additional vehicles already in the roadway—a 2019 Ford Escape and a 2012 Ford F-150—both of which were unoccupied due to a previous crash.

Fatal Injuries and Ongoing Investigation

Clemons suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Acura was also injured and airlifted for treatment. The investigation into the exact sequence of events is ongoing.

Remembering a Beloved Community Member

Lonnie Clemons is being remembered by his family and the community as a beloved father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor whose absence will be deeply felt.

The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of roadway safety for both drivers and pedestrians. The community is rallying to offer prayers and support to the Clemons family as they navigate this devastating loss.
