THIBODAUX, La. — The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed the tragic discovery of 25-year-old Tavares Coleman Jr., whose body was found in a pond near his residence Saturday morning, bringing a heartbreaking end to a days-long community search.
Coleman was reported missing on Wednesday, December 17, after being last seen leaving his home on Sunday, December 14. Concern was heightened as he left without his phone, wallet, or vehicle, according to authorities.
Community Holds Out Hope, Then Grief
For days, family, friends, and neighbors distributed flyers and held onto hope for his safe return, united in a community-wide effort. That hope turned to profound grief Saturday when Sheriff Craig Webre confirmed the discovery.
“We are now left to mourn a life lost far too soon and to grapple with questions that may never fully be answered,” said a family spokesperson.
Investigation Continues, Foul Play Not Suspected
Investigators stated that no signs of foul play have been found at this time, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain under active review by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office continues to ask for public assistance. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or submit a tip online or via their mobile app. Tips can be made anonymously.
A Community Remembers a Cherished Life
As the focus shifts from searching to remembering, the Thibodaux community is rallying to honor Coleman, described as a beloved son, friend, and familiar face with dreams and a future ahead.
The outpouring of shared memories and condolences stands as a testament to the impact of his life. “He was more than a missing person bulletin,” a close friend shared. “He was a light in our community, and that light will be deeply missed.”
Authorities and loved ones ask that Tavares Coleman Jr. be remembered for the life he lived and the love he shared, as his family seeks comfort and strength during this unimaginable time.
