Bexar County is mourning the loss of Judge Michele Garcia, who has reportedly passed away, county officials confirmed through social media tributes shared Saturday.
Judge Garcia served as Justice of the Peace for Bexar County Precinct 4, where she was widely respected for her dedication to public service and her commitment to fairness within the community. Her death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from local leaders, colleagues, and advocacy groups across Texas.
Robert Vargas III, president of the Texas Stonewall Democrats, announced the news in a heartfelt Facebook post, noting Judge Garcia’s involvement with the organization, an LGBTQ caucus of the Texas Democratic Party. He extended prayers to her wife, family, and all those who worked closely with her.
Several county officials echoed those sentiments. Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti remembered Judge Garcia as “a wonderful person,” emphasizing the mutual respect they shared. District Attorney Joe Gonzalez also expressed his sorrow, offering prayers and honoring her legacy of service.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert announced that the precinct office flag will be flown at half-staff for nine days in recognition of Judge Garcia’s service and in observance of a period of mourning. He urged the community to keep her loved ones, coworkers, and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
Details surrounding Judge Garcia’s passing have not been publicly released. Her legacy, however, remains firmly rooted in the impact she made serving the people of Bexar County.
