
CHRISTIANSTED, St. Croix – The U.S. Virgin Islands community is mourning the sudden death of a prominent local businessman and political figure.
Michael Springer, 50, was found unresponsive at his home in the Estate Mahogany area on Sunday afternoon, December 14, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD).
Response and Investigation
Police and EMTs responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:50 p.m. reporting a non-responsive male. Family members at the scene identified the deceased as Springer.
The VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting a standard investigation. While no foul play is currently suspected, the official cause of death is pending determination by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
A Recognized Community Figure
Springer was a well-known entrepreneur on St. Croix, operating a fast-food and bar establishment near Plaza Extra East. He was also an active political figure, having run multiple times for a seat in the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature, seeking to represent the St. Croix District.
His unexpected passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from across the island, with many remembering his dedication to his business and his persistent involvement in local community affairs.
