Anderson Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash, Community Remembers Darren Lockhart

ANDERSON, Ind. — A man from Anderson has died following a serious car accident in Madison County, authorities confirmed.

The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon along East County Road 800 North, southeast of Alexandria. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Darren Lockhart left the roadway for reasons still under investigation, struck a guardrail, and came to rest in a ditch.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Lockhart was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger in the vehicle was also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The extent of the passenger’s injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

Officials stated that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
