Walker County, Alabama, is in mourning following confirmation from authorities that 4-year-old Johnathan Boley, who had been reported missing earlier in the week, was found dead Friday morning not far from his home. The discovery has brought a heartbreaking conclusion to days of searching and anxious waiting for both the family and the surrounding community.

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith said Johnathan’s remains were located just a few miles from his residence near Highway 195 in the Jasper area. In addressing the public, Sheriff Smith acknowledged the overwhelming sense of loss felt throughout the county.

“Like so many across our community, we are devastated by this news,” Smith said, remembering Johnathan as an adventurous child who loved being outdoors.

Officials have not yet disclosed a cause of death, noting that the case remains under active investigation. Sheriff Smith said investigators are continuing to work through the details of the case and that further information will be released as it becomes available.

Johnathan was last seen around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, when he reportedly walked into nearby wooded areas from his father’s property with the family dog, Buck. A widespread search followed, involving law enforcement agencies and local volunteers. When Johnathan was found, deputies reported that Buck was alive and near the child, a detail that has deeply affected those following the case.

During the search efforts, Johnathan’s father, Jameson Kyle Boley, was arrested Thursday on outstanding warrants unrelated to his son’s disappearance. Authorities said a search of the home uncovered explosive materials, resulting in charges that include chemical endangerment and unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device.

On Friday, District Judge Allison M. Jones set Jameson Boley’s bond at $300,000, citing concerns that he posed a risk to public safety due to explosives being present in a home where children were located.

No charges have been filed at this time in direct connection with Johnathan Boley’s death. Investigators continue reviewing evidence and examining all aspects of the case.

The tragedy has left a lasting impact on Walker County, with residents expressing grief, sympathy, and support for those affected. As the community awaits further updates, officials are urging patience and respect for the investigative process while reaffirming their commitment to determining exactly what led to the loss of the young child.
