Paulsboro, N.J. — Authorities are working to piece together the events behind a fatal shooting that unfolded Saturday inside a home on Elizabeth Avenue, a violent incident that has stunned residents and left the tight-knit Paulsboro community in mourning.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that officers responded to reports of gunfire at the residence and discovered two people dead inside the home, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the incident involved domestic violence, with a man allegedly shooting his wife and teenage daughter before taking his own life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenage victim, described by neighbors as a ninth-grade student, also died at the residence. A third victim, an adult woman who sustained a gunshot wound to her torso, survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not released an update on her condition.

In the immediate aftermath, police shut down sections of Cook Street and Elizabeth Avenue as detectives and forensic teams from multiple agencies processed the scene. The area remained restricted for several hours while evidence was collected and witness interviews were conducted.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victims, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and the need to notify and support extended family members.

As word of the tragedy spread, neighbors expressed shock and sorrow, recalling the family as friendly and well-liked. Several residents described them as warm, welcoming, and often seen greeting others in the neighborhood.

“They were always smiling, always kind,” one neighbor said. “This doesn’t feel real at all.”

Others spoke fondly of the teenage girl, remembering her as respectful and full of promise. Many in the community have also voiced prayers and support for the surviving woman, hoping she pulls through.

Rebecca Forand, public information officer for the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, said detectives are continuing to investigate and will share additional information when appropriate. Officials urged patience as they work to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident has cast a heavy shadow over Paulsboro, where residents are now grappling with the sudden loss of a family once known for its warmth and presence, and searching for answers in the wake of an unthinkable act.
