LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after the bodies of legendary film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered in their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon.

The Discovery

Emergency responders were dispatched to the couple’s residence on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to law enforcement sources, both victims suffered severe lacerations consistent with knife wounds.

Authorities said a family member discovered the bodies and contacted police. Sources indicate that the family member expressed concern that another family member might be involved.

Person of Interest Questioned

Investigators confirmed they are questioning the couple’s son, Nick Reiner. Police emphasized that he is a person of interest, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been announced.

“Details remain preliminary,” an LAPD statement read, urging patience as the Robbery-Homicide Division processes the scene and gathers evidence.

A Hollywood Legacy

Rob Reiner, 78, was a towering figure in Hollywood. He rose to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the classic sitcom All in the Family before becoming an acclaimed director of iconic films including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

He was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, who died in 2020.

Michele Singer Reiner, 68, was a photographer. The couple married in 1989 and shared more than 35 years together. They are survived by their three children.
