CADDO PARISH, La. — A 77-year-old man from Oil City has died following a serious collision with a commercial truck on New Year’s Day, authorities said.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Dana Casey. Emergency crews responded to a crash on State Highway 169 on Jan. 1, where Casey’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health with critical injuries but later died, officials confirmed.

The crash remains under investigation by local authorities. No additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision were immediately released.

Friends and neighbors in the Oil City area expressed sorrow at the news, remembering Casey as a long-time resident. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, and family members are being notified as the investigation continues.

Officials reminded motorists to exercise caution on rural highways, particularly when sharing the road with large commercial vehicles, as crashes involving heavy trucks often result in severe injuries or fatalities.
