BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boca Raton and technology communities are mourning the passing of Anthony Ungerman, a distinguished software engineer, cybersecurity expert, and mentor who died on Tuesday, December 16. He was 60 years old.
A Life Defined by Family and Innovation
Born in Dallas, Texas, Ungerman’s life was anchored by family and an early passion for technology. He received his first computer for his Bar Mitzvah in 1978, sparking a lifelong fascination that shaped his career.
He became a respected figure in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, earning numerous patents. However, his true legacy was in his commitment to mentorship and advocacy. He was a vocal champion for underrepresented voices in tech, actively supporting women in computer science and the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans rights.
“He was brilliant yet humble, and incredibly generous with his time,” a former colleague shared. “He was always eager to help others succeed.”
A 35-Year Love Story and Cherished Legacy
In his mid-20s, Ungerman moved to Miami, where he met his neighbor, Marisa. Their connection blossomed into a 35-year partnership filled with love, friendship, and purpose. Together, they raised three daughters—Katya, Bianca, and Sabrina—and welcomed grandchildren.
Anthony often spoke of his family as his greatest accomplishment. He found immense joy in everyday moments, from shared family meals to playful times with their cats. Outside of his professional and family life, he was known for his humor, love of Billy Joel, chess, reading, and unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marisa; his three daughters and their partners; grandchildren; his parents, Nancy and Jay; and his siblings, Carrie, Leslie, and Garin. His legacy of kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support will be carried forward by all who knew him.
