Bruce Frederick Bowie Obituary-Death: Beloved Canadian Broadcaster and Community Advocate Dies at 72
Bruce Frederick Bowie, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and influential voice in Canadian radio, has died. He passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. He was 72.

Born on Nov. 2, 1953, in Piapot, Saskatchewan, Bowie was remembered by those closest to him as a man whose life was grounded in faith, kindness and service. Known for his warm smile, gentle humor and generous spirit, he made people feel seen and valued both on and off the air. Family members say his deep love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life, shaping the way he treated others and the work he devoted himself to.

Bowie is survived by his wife, Maria, and their children, David and Daniel (Heather), as well as his adored granddaughters, Ava and Peyton. He is also survived by his brother, Ian (Eleanor), and nieces and nephews Jon (Tracy) and Elayna (Barry). While the family has asked for privacy as they grieve, they have shared that they are deeply comforted by memories from those whose lives Bruce touched.

Beyond his family, Bowie leaves behind a lasting imprint on Canadian broadcasting, particularly in Edmonton, where he became a familiar and trusted voice. He was widely recognized for his work on 630 CHED and other local stations, earning respect not only for his professionalism but for his commitment to uplifting the community he served. Listeners and colleagues alike recall a broadcaster who saw radio as more than a job — it was a way to encourage, connect and give back.

Tributes from former coworkers highlight the depth of his influence. Broadcaster Bryn Griffiths, who worked with Bowie at CISN, remembered him as both a mentor and a friend. “He taught me the importance of community engagement and always encouraged me to be myself,” Griffiths shared, recalling the laughter and lasting memories they built together.

Chris Scheetz, another longtime colleague, described Bowie as a transformative presence in his life. “Bruce was the hardest-working and most talented announcer I ever worked with,” Scheetz said. “His encouragement changed my lifestyle and his Christian values shone through in everything he did. He inspired people simply by the way he lived.”

To many, Bruce Bowie was far more than a radio personality. He was a mentor who checked in, a motivator who believed in others, and a compassionate presence who never hesitated to offer support. His faith, humility and dedication to community service left an enduring mark that continues to be felt.

A Celebration of Life is planned for early 2026, with details to be announced. Those who wish to share memories or receive updates are invited to email brucebowiememories@gmail.com

The Bowie family has expressed heartfelt thanks to the staff at Greater Niagara General Hospital, Victim Services Niagara and Patterson Funeral Home, as well as to the many friends, colleagues and listeners who have offered messages of love and support.

Bruce Frederick Bowie will be remembered as a man who lived with purpose — guided by faith, fueled by compassion and devoted to making the world around him a little brighter.
