ACADIA PARISH, La. — Authorities have identified David Doucet, a 62-year-old resident of Sulphur, as the victim in a deadly wrong-way crash on Louisiana Highway 190 that left two other people seriously injured.

According to Louisiana State Police, the collision occurred on the evening of January 1, 2026, near Bryan Perrodin Loop. Investigators say Doucet was driving a Toyota Tundra westbound in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with a GMC Canyon traveling in the proper direction.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Doucet suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the GMC Canyon were both wearing seat belts and sustained serious injuries. They were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Troopers confirmed that all occupants involved were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were collected as part of standard procedure, and officials have not yet determined why Doucet was traveling the wrong way on the highway.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash. In the meantime, state police are urging drivers to remain alert, avoid impaired or distracted driving, and immediately report wrong-way vehicles when encountered.

The tragic loss of David Doucet has prompted renewed concern about roadway safety, particularly during evening hours, as the community extends condolences to his family and hopes for the recovery of the injured victims.
