Edcouch Man Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Crash Near Weslaco, DPS Investigating
A fatal auto-pedestrian collision north of Weslaco has claimed the life of Raul Palomin, a 48-year-old resident of Edcouch, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety and renewed concern over pedestrian safety along FM 1015.

According to DPS officials, the crash occurred Saturday evening, January 3, 2026, around 6:21 p.m. on FM 1015 just south of Mile 13 1/2 Road. Authorities said Palomin attempted to cross the roadway when he entered the path of a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. The truck struck him with its front right-side mirror.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene. The driver of the Silverado stopped immediately and remained to assist. Palomin was transported by ambulance to McAllen Medical Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Investigators are still working to determine what led Palomin into the roadway. DPS officials have not indicated whether lighting conditions, visibility, or a medical issue may have contributed to the crash. No charges or citations have been announced as the investigation remains active.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to safety concerns along FM 1015, a roadway residents say can be dangerous for pedestrians, especially during evening hours. Community members have previously called for improved lighting, clearer pedestrian crossings, and traffic-calming measures in the area.

Palomin’s death has left family and friends grieving a sudden and painful loss. Those who knew him described him as a dedicated family man whose absence will be deeply felt. Authorities are urging both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert and cautious, particularly in areas with limited visibility, as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
