Northridge Community Mourns Sudden Passing of Beloved Teacher and Band Director Jacob Lorkovic
The Northridge community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jacob Lorkovic, a beloved teacher and band director whose passing has left students, colleagues, and families in deep sorrow.

Mr. Lorkovic was widely admired for his dedication to music education and his unwavering commitment to his students. Known for his leadership, enthusiasm, and genuine care, he played a central role in shaping the school’s band program and inspiring countless students through his passion for music and mentorship. Many describe him as more than an educator—he was a role model who encouraged confidence, creativity, and teamwork both inside and outside the classroom.

News of his unexpected death has sent shockwaves throughout the Northridge school district, with an outpouring of tributes reflecting the profound impact he had on the school community. Students and parents alike have shared memories of his encouragement, patience, and the lasting influence he had on their lives.

In response to the loss, the school has arranged counseling and support services for students and staff. These services will be available on Friday, January 2, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Door 1, and will continue on Monday, January 5, when classes resume.

To honor Mr. Lorkovic’s life and legacy, a community vigil will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 5:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The vigil is open to all who wish to come together in remembrance and solidarity.
