Person of interest in Brown University shooting found at Coventry hotel, 2 firearms recovered
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A massive multi-agency investigation into a deadly campus shooting at Brown University has led to the detention of a person of interest who was located at a hotel 15 miles from the scene and was found in possession of two firearms.

The individual has been identified as Benjamin Erickson, 24, of Wisconsin. Authorities emphasize he is currently a person of interest and has not been formally charged in connection with the shooting that left two dead and multiple injured on Tuesday.

Hotel Room Detention and Evidence

According to law enforcement sources, Erickson was detained during an early morning operation Wednesday at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island. The FBI stated its Cellular Analysis Survey Team helped trace his location.

FBI Boston’s Safe Streets Task Force, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Coventry Police, executed the detention. Upon entering the hotel room, investigators questioned Erickson and conducted a search.

During the search, authorities recovered two firearms: a revolver and a small Glock handgun equipped with a laser sight. Multiple federal sources indicate investigators believe Erickson traveled from Wisconsin to Rhode Island ahead of the attack, though a motive has not been disclosed.

A Coordinated Investigation

“The FBI will continue an all-out, 24/7 effort until justice is fully served,” FBI Director Kash Patel stated, acknowledging the collaborative response between local, state, and federal agencies.

Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez confirmed the coordination but declined to provide further details, citing the active investigation.

The Campus Attack

The shooting occurred Tuesday inside a first-floor classroom of the Barus and Holley Engineering Building at Brown University during exam period. The university issued active shooter alerts, instructing the campus to shelter in place.

Authorities confirm two people were killed and multiple others were injured in the attack, which has deeply traumatized the campus community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
