
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 39-year-old man Monday evening.
The victim has been identified as Emilio Hoyos.
Details of the Crash
According to TPD, the incident occurred around 7:05 p.m. on Monday, December 15, in the 300 block of East 22nd Street near 4th Avenue.
Investigators report that Hoyos was walking in the eastbound curb lane of 22nd Street when he was struck by a vehicle. Authorities confirmed he was not in a marked or implied crosswalk, with the nearest one approximately 160 feet away.
The driver, a 36-year-old individual, was traveling at about 35 mph in a 30 mph zone. Police state the driver saw Hoyos before the crash and attempted to avoid him, but the collision could not be prevented.
Driver Not Impaired
The TPD Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit evaluated the driver at the scene and confirmed they were not impaired by alcohol or drugs. The driver was unharmed.
Emergency responders from the Tucson Fire Department transported Hoyos to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
