ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Two young U.S. Navy service members were shot and killed in their own front yard by a fellow roommate on Wednesday night in what police are calling a shocking double homicide.
The victims have been identified as Noely Makenda, 21, and Jordyn Forrestier, 20.
A Shocking Scene at Oakleaf Plantation
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, on the 4400 block of Hanging Moss Drive in the Oakleaf Plantation community.
Investigators say they found Makenda and Forrestier in the front yard of their shared home, both deceased after being struck multiple times.
Altercation Leads to “Approximately 30 Rounds” Fired
Authorities revealed that the shooter was a third roommate, 22-year-old Taylor Lomax. Investigators said a physical altercation had occurred earlier that evening between Lomax’s wife and the two Navy women.
During this altercation, deputies say Lomax emerged from the home and fired approximately 30 rounds, killing both of his roommates.
Roommate in Custody on Murder Charges
Lomax was immediately taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
His wife was interviewed and released. Authorities confirmed that all four individuals lived together in the home.
Community and Navy Mourn Devastating Loss
The deaths have sent waves of grief through the tight-knit Orange Park community and the U.S. Navy. Both Makenda and Forrestier were active-duty service members who shared a bond of dedication and friendship.
Makenda is being remembered by her family as a bright, dedicated, and courageous young woman whose life was cut tragically short. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact investigators.
