The Vatukoula community and colleagues at the Vatukoula Gold Mine (VGML) are mourning the loss of Mr. Onisimo Jiare Fonmanu, a respected mine manager and beloved family man who passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Mr. Fonmanu is remembered by his family as a kind-hearted and caring man who deeply loved his family and always placed others before himself. “Onisimo was a devoted husband, a loving family man, and a man whose gentle spirit, humility, and compassion touched all who knew him,” his wife shared in a heartfelt announcement.
Professionally, Mr. Fonmanu served faithfully as a Mine Manager at Vatukoula Gold Mine, where he was widely respected for his integrity, strong leadership, and dedication to his colleagues. His passing is felt deeply within the close-knit mining community.
Funeral Arrangements
In accordance with Mr. Fonmanu’s own wishes, his family has announced there will be NO REGUREGU (traditional Fijian mourning gathering) held, a request made to avoid burdening his loved ones. The family has asked for the community’s understanding and respect for this decision.

Burial will follow at the Vatukoula Back Road cemetery. After the burial, family and friends are invited to gather for lunch at the Vatukoula Bowling Club.

Mr. Onisimo Jiare Fonmanu will be remembered for his gentle nature, professional dedication, and the deep love he held for his family.
